Description
 VITAMIN D PLUS Vitamin D is not a Vitamin in the classic sense of being a nutrient that the body does not make it. It is a HORMONE, which is biologically inactive until it is metabolized into a STEROID similar to classic steroid hormones like TESTOSTERONE, PROGESTERONE and CORTISOL. Vitamin D is generated within the body from exposure to sunlight and from dietary sources such as fatty fish like Salmon, Cod liver oil, and fortified milk. Vitamin D has different forms, D2 (ergocalciferol), D3 (cholecalciferol), along with metabolites and analogues of these substances. Vitamin D was first identified in 1920s, however, recent medical studies suggest that low vitamin D status could be associated with higher mortality from life-threatening conditions including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes mellitus that account for 60 to 70 % of total mortality in high income countries. Research from Harvard School of Public Health provides reassurance that at ordinary doses, long-term vitamin D supplementation does not seem to be associated with an overall adverse effect. Higher levels of the sunshine vitamin appear to improve brain function and mood in older adults. Vitamin D deficiency can affect a wide variety of conditions including bone health, cardiovascular disease, some infectious diseases, diabetes and colon, ovarian, kidney, pancreas and breast cancers.
